Leo & Company Dog Biscuit Review-Giveaway ended

If my dogs had to pick a favorite type of review, anything involving eating would probably be number 1. So when Kyr from Leo & Company contacted me about trying some of their biscuits and doing a review, I knew my crew would be happy.

Leo & Company was started training treats were needed for Loki, an adopted dog who not only was her son Leo’s best friend but also became his service dog. Now they make their treats to help raise money for animal causes by donating part of the proceeds.

I received 4 different flavors to sample-

Buffalo Biscuits- ingredients- spelt, pasture raised buffalo, vegetable broth, apple, olive oil, bee pollen, flax, molasses, herbs

Apple & Peanut Butter- ingredients- spelt, apples, peanuts, walnut oil, bee pollen, flax, molasses, herbs

Lamb & Rice- ingredients- spelt, pasture raised lamb, vegetable broth, apple, olive oil, organic apple, bee pollen, flax, molasses, herbs

Parmesan Cheese Dog Biscuits- ingredients- spelt, parmesan cheese, vegetable broth, olive oil, bee pollen, flax, molasses, herbs

All made of organic human-grade ingredients, the biscuits looked good enough for me to eat, well maybe the Apple & Peanut Butter and Parmesan Cheese biscuits. I’m not much of a meat flavored biscuit person.

When the biscuits arrived, I just happened to be watching my sister’s dog, Baxter, for the weekend. Baxter is an 11 year old English Setter who tends to be picky normally, but is even more picky now that he is suffering from chronic renal disease. I thought this would be the perfect chance to see how a picky dog would like the biscuits, so I took one of each flavor out and laid them in a row on the bed. He sniffed each one until he got to the last one, Parmesan Cheese, and he gobbled that one down. He then proceeded down the line eating up each one and looking for more. Since he liked them so well I used a couple later on to break up and mix into his food to get him to eat. (My crew also gave them a big paws up when they got a chance to try them.)

Review Wrap-up

+ Organic, human-grade ingredients. I like knowing that my pets are eating healthy ingredients and not what is left over from preparing food for human consumption.

+ Made to order. There is no doubt they are fresh since they are made as orders come in.

+ Good for dogs with food allergies. When you have a dog with food allergies, it can be hard to find something they can enjoy. Leo & Company stays away from common allergens like beef, wheat and soy and includes some uncommon protein sources like buffalo in their treats.

Fizzion Pet Stain & Odor Remover Review and Giveaway

If you have pets, you are going to have some sort of pet mess to deal with at some point so pet stain & odor removers are one of those necessary products. Fizzion Concentrated Cleaner, a Pet Product News’ 2009 Editor’s Choice Winner, is one of the newer pet stain and odor remover on the market and one of the most unique. Fizzion, which is made of baking soda, citric acid, oxidizers and cleaning surfactants, comes in an earth friendly tablet form allowing you to use re-use a spray bottle and reducing the amount of packaging that gets thrown away. It comes in a package with 2 tablets, each one is enough to make 16 ounces of remover. Once mixed up, the solution is good for a year. A big plus is that Fizzion not only works on pet stains & odors but other household stains and odors as well.

When I received a package of Fizzion to try, I decided to make it easier to do

the review and got a smaller piece of carpet to try it on. I removed one of my ferrets’ litter boxes and put the carpet in their cage for them to anoint. They did a good job of it, too good as I was to find out. Not able to get to it right away, I let the rug sit for a few days (never a good thing when cleaning up messes). To prepare for the clean-up, I followed the directions and filled up my spray bottle with warm water adding one of the tablets. Like the name suggests, it began fizzing and was quickly ready to use. The company’s description of Fizzion says it has a clean fresh linen scent. Clean is definitely the word that popped into my head when I smelled it. The scent is not very strong at all, I could only detect it when I was close to where I sprayed.

The first mess to take care of was the fecal mess. I removed as much of the solid waste as I could, sprayed the stained areas and began dabbing with a paper towel. I did have to repeat a few times but in a few minutes all the fecal stains were gone. Next I went after the urine stains that showed up on the back. This is where the ferrets went a bit overboard. I did the spray and dab over several times on one half of the rug and there was a noticeable difference in the stain. I repeated this over the next few days and continued to notice the stain was lessening. I still need to work on it to get all the stain out, one reason why it’s important to attack a mess as soon as possible. The amount of urine also made it take longer for the urine smell to disappear. I sprayed it over a period of several days but it did the trick. A week after the last spray, I can’t smell any urine. My cat, Omar, seemed to confirm that when I turned around to see my cat sleeping on it.

Review Wrap-up

+ Very Earth friendly. Being in concentrated tablet form means less

packaging to manufacture and throw away. It also means less weight being shipped. And it saves you room because you don’t need a lot of room to store bottles.

+ Long lasting. Fizzion remains active for a year once mixed up, though they do recommend making a new solution for difficult stains.

+Works! I did have to repeat, but the ferrets had made a real mess and I had let the rug seat. I was glad that it continued to work with the repeat uses and that the stain & odor didn’t set after one use and not come out. With the size of the mess, I would expect to have to do the repeating I had to do with any stain & odor remover.

+Light Scent. It doesn’t have an overpowering chemical scent. In fact, I couldn’t detect any scent unless I sniffed the rug.

+ Cost. The cost with shipping is comparable to similar products on the market. Fizzion when purchased directly from the company costs $6.99 (plus shipping & tax).

– I actually can’t come up with any negatives. Well, maybe that it’s not available in more retail outlets since it always seems to be an emergency when I need an odor remover. But I’ll give them time!

A couple of people mentioned small dogs and the medium collar, so I decided to see how the medium collar would work for a small dog. I put it one Ricochet overlapping as much as possible to make it fit. It left quite a bit of overhang. The first thing he did was go to bite the overhang. Since the overhang has the LED lights, it would only take a couple of good bites to make the collar unusable. I would definitely recommend waiting for SeeSpot Collars to come out with their smaller size

SeeSpot Lighted Dog Collar Review and Giveaway

It’s about 120 feet from my backdoor to the back fence and at night, it is impossible to see my dogs when they run down to the end of the yard. After having 2 of them get out a few yards ago after a storm blew down part of the fence, I worry a little bit so I like to keep track of them.

The one solution I had thought of was to put a floodlight on my garage that will add some light in the back. Right now it’s not in the budget, so if I can’t light up the yard, the other solution is to light up the dogs.

Brad from SeeSpot Collars contacted me about reviewing the light-up collars he developed. After finding available collars didn’t quite work as he wanted, Brad designed a collar that fit what he was looking for to help him keep track of his dog. When other people seemed interested in it, he decided there was a need for his collar. The collars are great for the average pet owners who want their dog to be more visible at night either so they can see them or so other people can; Brad has found that canine search and rescue teams also use them as well as those who use guide dogs. Along with the SeeSpot Lighted Dog Collars, Brad’s company also makes products to help make people such as bicyclists more visible at night.

Two SeeSpot Lighted Dog Collars arrived in the mail for me to review. The collars come in 2 sizes- medium which fits dogs with neck sizes from 19- 21 inches and large which fits neck sizes from 22- 25 inches. The collars feature Velcro for adjusting each size range. Made of nylon webbing, they come in two colors- red and blue and each collar has 5 blinking LED lights on it. A battery pack measuring about 2 ½ inches by 1 ½ inches powers the lights off of 3 AAA batteries. The switch to turn on the lights is on the end of the battery pack. It’s a nice simple push button switch- push it to turn it on, push it again to turn it off. The battery pack isn’t too heavy and the collar is designed so the weight of the battery pack falls under the dog’s chin leaving the LED lights on the back of the dog’s neck where they are more easily seen, especially under long ears.

One of the first things I do with a product is look at the construction. The stitching on the collar was good and there were no exposed wires. The lights each come though an opening in the cotton webbing. I tried pushing them back into the inside of the collar because I wanted to see if there was a possibility of this happening while being worn. It took a lot of manipulation for that to happen (bending the collar in half and pushing real hard with my fingers) and when I was finally able to do it, the light wasn’t completely inside. I was satisfied that the lights wouldn’t disappear during normal use by my dogs. I slammed the lights down on the desk a few times to see how the bulbs held up. None of them broke so it looks like it would stand up to my dogs rough and tumble playing.

The week they arrived I happened to be watching my sister’s English Setter, Baxter. This gave me a chance to try both collars, the large on Baxter and the medium on my English Springer, Mellie. You can see how bright the collars are and how visible they are from 120 feet away.

I thought the collars did a good job at letting me know where my dogs were.

I wanted to see how long the lights would last so I turned the red collar on and left it on. The LED lights continued working for 5 days-over 100 hours which is quite a long time if used for just a short time each day. About the 4^th day the lights did get noticeably dimmer. During regular use, I would probably change them at this point.

The manufacturer does say the collar is weather and water resistant, but doesn’t recommend that it be submerged. They do say if it does get submerged, it won’t hurt your dog. You just need to remove the batteries and let it dry. They did their testing; I decided to do a bit of my own. I turned on the shower and held the one collar under it for a few minutes. No problem, the collar worked fine afterward. Next I filled up the sink and put the other collar in while the collar was on. I left it sit in there for about 10 minutes and checked on it. There was a small issue with the water slowly draining out of the sink, but some part of the collar was always in water at for those 10 minutes. About mid way through the lights had turned off, but came back on when I moved the collar. They were still blinking when I took the collar out of the water after the 10 minutes. I turned the collar off, took the batteries out and set the collar overnight to dry. The next day I put the batteries in and turned the collar on. Nothing. I was a little worried, but decided not to give up on it until I tried a new set of batteries. They did the trick. The collar was working as good as new. It’s nice to know that if my dogs are out in the rain or happen to jump in their swimming pool while wearing the SeeSpot Lighted Dog Collar the collar is done for.

Review Wrap-up

+ Bright. I was impressed with how bright they were. I could easily see my dog from over a 100 feet away.

+ Adjustable. The Velcro makes it easy to fit different neck sizes. This is great for dogs who get their hair cut so need different size collars at different times.

+Weather-resistant. While it probably wouldn’t be a good idea for your dog to wear the collar while dock diving, it’s great that it can be safely worn out in wet weather without a problem.

+/– Not a collar that is meant to take the place of your regular collar(plus or minus depending on your view). The manufacturer does not make any claims that it does. It doesn’t have a ring to attach a leash or tags to and while the Velcro is strong, I know I wouldn’t trust it to hold a pulling dog. I personally like that it is used separate from the regular collar and that you put it on when you need it. No chance for it to get ruined by a dog who might chew it.

– Currently sizes are only available for medium and large dogs. Even though Jack Russells act like big dogs in little dog bodies, the collars still wouldn’t fit them. And they are the ones I need to keep track of the most! I asked if there were plans to make smaller sizes and was told that there are plans to add small dog sizes to the line. Yay!

I liked the SeeSpot Lighted Dog Collar. I looked at what was available in my local PetSmart and the only one they offered looked a little weighty. It wasn’t too attractive with 3 lighted parts that were the size of those reflectors you put in your driveway. I prefer the nice clean look of the SeeSpot collar. I do want to try the collar on a dog with more hair than my crew so I can see how visible it will be. Since I would put the collar on and off as I let the dogs in and out, I think it wouldn’t have a chance to work its way underneath the coat as collars tend to do.
